Fascinating story of a unique woman and her passion for painting, life and her womanizing husband. Her unique, symbolic and colourful paintings not only conveyed her inner thoughts and feelings, but also the events in her 47 year lifetime. This book is very detailed biography of a great woman. Her accident at 18 leaves her with permanent scars and pains that pledged her for the rest of her life, but this disability continued to ignite her passion for life and painting. She once said that she was not a surrealist as she never painted dreams but her own reality. After reading this made me realise that the Frida movie with Selma Hayek was just the tip of the iceberg into the life of Kahlo and who she was. Highly recommended to those who wish to know more about this intelligent and complex woman.

This biography of Frida Kahlo an important female artist was enjoyable to read. The biographer researched the life of the artist and has written a sensitive portrait of her life.

I was expecting the original artwork cover as shown on the listing. Instead, it was the movie cover of selma hayek.:(

I love the movie and the book of the same name. I was delighted to learn I could get the actual biography the movie was based on. I've only started to read the book. Visualizing the events in the biography will be fun. I enjoyed the movie.

Very interesting book. Obviously, especially if you are interested in Frida Kahlo. Went into lots of detail and the photos were a brilliant bonus. Would highly recommend.

Would have liked more pictures in this book.It is an interesting read about an interesting person. A few more pictures to illustrate her personal and her artistic style would have been helpful.

`Frida: The Biography of Frida Kahlo' is the book the excellent film was based upon and if you have seen the film and enjoyed it, you can see where the poetry and detail comes from when you read this. This book explores Frida's life and art and whilst this is a biography of her life, it also doubles a critique of some of her art as well. Various pieces are explored and analysed in great depth and put into context with her life and when she created them. This has lots of her early love letters, as well as letters she wrote throughout her life and these give you a real feel for her own unique voice. This also has excellent sections which show her artwork and photos from her life (two sections of which are black and white and two of which are in colour). There are extensive notes and as such this book could be used for academic study, but it is so rich and engaging that you can almost enjoy this as a novel of an original, inspiring and fiercely independent woman. Frida has often been overshadowed by her famous husband, but fortunately here she takes centre stage and you can see her for all her faults, as well as her humour, grace, intelligence and beauty.
