It is working for me
I had 15 pounds to lose and was desperate to find an easy meal plan that would work. It is working! Lost 12 so far. It isn't the most exciting diet (like South Beach) but it is easy to follow. I don't like the recipes in the book. They may be for a more European palate, but I just picked from the list of foods and ate simply. The shirataki noodles were a life saver-as long as you cook them properly. I made spaghetti, stroganoff, pho, and asian dishes with it. They fill you up! I couldn't see myself doing this long term, but it sure helped me when other diets were not working.

A Life chanching Diet!!! The best one!!
The best diet ever. I have the two editions of this book, after I started dieting back 2011, I have never stopped living the Duncan's diet life style. Is an easy to follow diet and you se the results on the first two days. I highly recommend the Duncan diet cookbook for new inspirations and ideas on what to cook every day especially for phase 1 and 2. It's the only diet that has good and permanent results if you follow it to the letter.

This book gives you all the info you need to follow the Dukan Diet
The book is written well and gives you everything you need to be able to follow the Dukan Diet. The Diet does work but it wasn't one I could continue for health reasons.

Lifesyle will influence how well you do on Dukan
Very clear easy to read and follow directions. Was not as "outlandish" as some reviews claimed. Basically, eat perimeter of supermarket (after 2 weeks) and stay away from sugar and refined foods, The galette is good, a little odd. but it is an tasty way to get fiber....you feel like you are eating breakfast or lunch. If you skip a meal, and say, try to have fiber in a drink, psychologically you might say I haven't eaten today. the galette subverts that thinking. You should weigh your portions I was very much surprised , even with my tiny hands, what 3 oz of steak was. If you can't follow now (because Holidays , whatever) my suggestion is don't go on for a week, then stop. You will be disappointed. It is carefully calibrated. If you do have self-resolve, you will lose 10 lbs by New Years Eve (or more).

I am very happy that I found this plan
This program really works for me. I have been up and down most of my adult life. When I am on a calorie restricted diet I am starving all the time and never feel full. This is the only plan that works for me where I don't have to control my portions or count calories. I feel that this is a plan I can use for life. I lost 10 pounds in 6 weeks. On a low calorie diet I had only lost 2 pounds in 6 weeks and we very discouraged. There is some repetition of meals for me b/c I don't want to cook everyday, but I don't mind this at all. I am very happy that I found this plan.

Not a Healthy Diet
I was suspicious from the start of the diet - a diet that claims you only need to walk 30 mins a day - no INSISTS you don't do more than that. There is absolutely no way this diet is healthy for you. My husband & I felt absolutely horrible for the entire week we were able to follow. I was lightheaded, nauseous, and bloated. I know many of the followers will claim this is detoxing from sugar, but after tracking calories for a couple of days it became clear that it is because you are eating basically NOTHING.... less than 500 calories a day. This is probably why the strict rule on exercise...you would pass out if trying anything more strenuous after a couple days on the diet. No doubt you can lose weight that way, but it is not sustainable for any length of time. You are better off cutting sugar and tracking what you eat along with exercise. As far as the book itself, Dr. Dukan seems to contradict himself several times in the rules. In one section, you can have unlimited egg whites, then a few chapters later, he says limit to two. Another part says only plain yogurt, then suddenly fruit flavoring is okay. I forget the rest because I stopped keeping track when it became clear he was making things up on the fly without real nutritional value.

Lose the weigh' the French way :)
In short, this is a high‑protein, low‑fat, low‑carb diet. Good luck! Phase 1 – Protein‑only day(s), where you eat just meat, poultry, eggs, fish — you get the idea. This phase can last anywhere from one to seven days, depending on how much weight you want to lose. I think it’s mostly meant to motivate us, since you can drop a few pounds quickly. Easy peasy! Phase 2 – The “I hate it” phase, where you can only eat protein and green vegetables until you reach your ideal weight. I’ve tried low‑carb diets (Atkins/Keto) before, and I didn’t feel great because sometimes I needed more carbohydrates in a day than the plan allowed. I realized that those so‑called “cravings” can actually be genuine body signals — your body needing more glucose than it’s getting. This hunger–satiety balance can be surprisingly complicated, especially when we eat the modern diet. Phase 3 – If you manage to finish Phase 2 (which can take months, depending on when you reach your ideal weight), you move into this phase, where you reintroduce fruits, cheese, and bread. Phase 4 – This is the tricky stabilization phase, where you gradually incorporate more foods. If someone reaches their ideal weight before Phase 4, making adjustments becomes much easier — if you eat too much fat or too many carbs, you’ll gain weight, so you learn how to fine‑tune things. In addition, you need to walk every day, which is why I love this approach — although adding strength‑training exercises is a must, in my opinion, to keep muscle mass up. Overall, I think this is a good book, although for me his other one — The Seven Steps: The Nutritional Staircase — is far more sustainable in the long run.
