Intriguing!
“𝑰𝒕'𝒔 𝒐𝒏𝒍𝒚 𝒃𝒆𝒄𝒂𝒖𝒔𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒊𝒓 𝒔𝒕𝒖𝒑𝒊𝒅𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚'𝒓𝒆 𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒆 𝒔𝒐 𝒔𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒎𝒔𝒆𝒍𝒗𝒆𝒔.” This book is terrifying! It’s terrifying because it involves a monster which is well-known to us all. Where does it come from? Where does it come from? Where does it dwell? Who controls it? What does it really feed on? No one knows the answers to these questions and that is what makes this monster so hauntingly terrifying. An unsettling feeling comes over you because things look and sound and feel real but something doesn’t fit with your usual paradigm of reality. The main character, Josef K., spends his time trying to work out his own trial, which he doesn’t understand, or even know what he did to deserve it. He seeks a solution, only to discover corruption in the system. He learns what it will take to survive. It couldn’t have been written with more precision and ingenuity, had it been written in our age of cruel bureaucracy. A splendid and unshakeable proof of Kafka’s genius. Many moments made me laugh, some left me suspended in strangeness, a dream-like fictional reality mimicking a surreal or perhaps borderline-insane reality. A few times my heart dropped to my belly, like when you ride a roller coaster, I mouthed the words to myself that I’ve heard define “Kafkaesque”. The Trial is an existential masterpiece by Kafka, which defined the Zeitgeist of his day. But it’s the universality of this existential theme of The Absurd, which endures. So the world isn’t fair. So what? K. desperately wants the court to understand the truth of his innocence but he is told: “𝑰𝒕 𝒊𝒔 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒏𝒆𝒄𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒂𝒓𝒚 𝒕𝒐 𝒂𝒄𝒄𝒆𝒑𝒕 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒔 𝒕𝒓𝒖𝒆, 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒎𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒐𝒏𝒍𝒚 𝒂𝒄𝒄𝒆𝒑𝒕 𝒊𝒕 𝒂𝒔 𝒏𝒆𝒄𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒂𝒓𝒚.”

What has happened to Penguin ?
There was a time when I used to love Penguin classics. But, ai think their quality of the books decreases day by day. This sentences in the book seem jumbled, with font too small. Given the density of the narrative in this book, the font should have been somewhat bigger and there should be more space among the sentence on a page. Anyways, a great read. Kafka is one of the greatest writers.

What a truly “bonkers”, absurd novel. I will need to digest it before posting a review that makes any sense at all. I was captivated but confused. I can’t say any more just now.

Amazing book. I bought it for someone's birthday, but I remember reading it years ago and being stuck in Kafka's universe for quite a while. Not finished, ambiguous, full of references to his personal life.
