It's good for what is being used for. It's good it takes different batteries and can be plugged in to a different power source. I found though that it doesn't charge by hand cranking well. It takes a long time to do so. But if you listen to it while charging you have to continuously crank the handle when the battery isn't charged on it. Batteries die kinda quick. But this is an emergency radio not your daily use radio. So that it can play the radio while charging with the crank handle is a good thing because in an emergency you need it now not later. The ham channels are cool but not widely used around where I live but who knows they may come in handy one day. The government weather channels are really nice to have.

I have several locations I placed radios. Moistures and age are a great enemy. So far battery life exceeds lithium ion and i am ordering another. August 27 update. Unable to get company supports. The tuning knob no longer works. Freewheels. Tried to submit email and it will not go. I have to have an account???!

I was looking for a radio that had all the bands, including short wave, and ran off battery, solar, or crank up hand power, and I found it in this one. The only reason I'm not giving it five stars is the first radio that shipped had a defect in the LCD display that caused some elements of the frequency numbers to be missing, making it confusing to read the display. Amazon and the seller made it good by allowing a return and almost immediately crediting my account. And I almost immediately ordered another, which came to me in perfect condition. I'm using the radio as a backup to have at home ready and able to listen to if my power goes out. I'm not planning on using it outdoors or on camping trips, etc., but it seems durable enough for that, too. The case is well-built and attractive, and the controls are simple and easy to use. The sound quality is what one would expect from a stand-alone radio. I did not expect it to operate directly from the solar cells, just recharge from them, but I do not think that it would run directly from the solar on a completely depleted battery unless it was in very bright sunlight, which is not recommended just for the sake not overheating it's components. Overall, I highly recommend it, and would give the radio five stars if the first one had not had that minor defect.

First off....I have had several Kaito emergency radios over the years and up to now, I had just 1 bad one....a digital radio version back in 2015. It was not worth returning it since the box was tossed. So today I received my 2nd Kaito digital tuning radio and it's just as bad, even tho it's a totally different Kaito radio. First off, the on/off switch did not work correctly. I used the internal battery....attached it as required and tried to turn on this radio unit. It did not turn on until I selected the "dynamo crank" selection on the unit's front. Another issue, the clock wasn't able to reset, despite spending 2 hours trying as the instruction manual stated. Also, I could not get the FM radio to memorize a handful of local FM radio stations. I tried it for over 1 hour "by the book" or owners manual and it did not work. What a piece of crap. I ended up getting the Kaito KA-500 analog radio. It does not have a digital clock, but it works perfectly. That radio has simple and workable analog tuning. I will review that unit next as I got it a few days ago. I would not spend the estimated $30 to $40 extra on this KA-600 and just get the KA-500 instead, unless you want to deal with total crap like this KA-600 is. I will return it tomorrow for complete refund. 1 star.

I am going to appreciate this nice radio WHEN a hurricane hits South Florida this season. I MUST learn to use all the bells and whistles. A very great must have for this time of the year if you live in the south. THANKS for a quick honest transaction. Buy-- you will not be sorry.

We gave our first one to a family member and bought the same one as a replacement. Works great!

It's nice to have an accessible and replaceable battery inside. Most digital emergency radios won't let me access the internal battery. I like the frame going around the tuner and volume knobs. There's 2 screws in it, but it looks like I'd remove the entire knob housing with them. I'd suggest making just the frame over the knobs removable if I wanted to. Why does the hand crank block the flashlight during part of its rotation? I could be using the flashlight while cranking because the battery's dead and I'll keep blocking the light. Why doesn't the telescoping antenna also articulate to go at any angle? Why are the lights a cool white when they'd be used at night, disrupting the circadian rhythm? How much more would warm white LEDs cost? The reading light/solar panel is loose so I can't keep it at low angles to catch the sun. It's all the way up or nothing. When grabbing it, assume you're going to unintentionally press a button. So you aim for the carrying strap instead but your thumb hits a button on the top. Any button makes the screen light up when the radio's off and every time I move the radio, the screen lights up. Not because of motion sensors, but because I accidentally hit a button. It's pretty weird that when I keep tuning in the SW band, it'll bounce back and forth between saying meters and AM depending on which frequency range I'm in. Not regular AM frequencies, but frequencies outside the AM band, while saying AM. Maybe I just need to learn more about this detail.
