will lid fit Kilner jars?

Hi there - Thank you for your helpful question. These will fit any WIDE mouth mason jar. Mason jars come in two sizes: regular mouth, 2 3⁄8 in (60 mm) inner and 2 3⁄4 in (70 mm) outer diameter, and wide mouth, 3 in (76 mm) inner and 3 3⁄8 in (86 mm) outer diameter, versions. Thanks again!

How do you know when the air is pumped out of the jar? i keep pumping the pump over the closed lid (full of cabbage) and can't feel any resistance.

Sometimes this will happen. If you see bubbles coming up and you have pumped at lest 6 times, you are normally just fine. Just make sure the rubber cover is completed over the top when pumping!

Got this for christmas and the wide mouthed mason jars i got as well don’t fit lids. can you recommend some that definitely fit?

Are you sure you got the right jars? Ball/mason and not kilner. Wide mouth and not the regular? If your jars don’t say Ball on the side or look like you could almost fit your fist through the top, then they are the wrong ones. Also check your sauer system is the correct one and not for regular mouth jars.

How is the pump supposed to work? I would expect to feel resistance when using but it just goes up and down like it's doing nothing.

It will do that if you’re trying it in fresh air. If you have a correctly filled jar with the lid on, you will feel resistance as it creates a vacuum.
