Finally after years of waiting, The Water Margin finally gets its FULLY RESTORED release. The Japanese producers made a full HD restoration of the Japanese materials and these were then merged with the UK titles and soundtrack. The restoration includes many deleted and shortened scenes never ever seen before. This is as good as it gets for Water Margin fans! The ancient sages said, Do not despise the snake for having no horns, for who is to say it will not become a dragon? So may one just man become an army. Nearly a thousand years ago in ancient China,at the time of the Song Dynasty, there was a cruel and corrupt government. These men riding are outlaws, heroes who have been driven to live in the water margins of Liang Shan Po, far to the south of the capital city. Each fights tyranny with a priceon his head, in a world very different from our own. The story starts in legend even then, for our heroes, it was said, were perhaps the souls reborn of other, earlier knights. Review: The water margin is the best - What a fantastic item that's well made and of great quality many thanks Review: A Classic Televisual Feast - I imagine that this series will really appear to those who watched it first time around. I also suspect that it would be generally thought of as so much trash by todays generations brought up in a world of a materialistic nature where everything has to be perfect with seamless CGI. But if you were to give it a chance the Water Margin is so very enjoyable whereby even the appalling dubbing is forgivable. In essence the entire series is a fairy tale and you are left in no doubt who are the good guys and those that are the baddies. A simple tale of good versus evil and the narration by Burt Kwouk always makes it clear to the viewer what the message actually is that is being delivered. I saw it first time around on TV and was so glad to see this collection released. The actual blu ray transfer is excellent presented in its original 4;3 format. The minute the programmes begin with its classic theme and epic panorama of legions of riders and running warriors everything came flooding back. It obviously made an impression on me as I remembered the characters names and even a few of the episodes. The main hero Lin Chung is inspiring and Atsuo Nakamura was cast perfectly in this role. I guess what I am trying to say is that if you take this series as it comes and enjoy it for what it is then this is a great piece of televisual history and I am happy to unreservedly recommend it to you. Liang Shan Po forever!

THE WATER MARGIN from Fabulous films is a Great series that brought me back to the late seventies when a black and white TV was available, competing with the KUNG FU movies fever, in the cinemas. Watching it 40 years later in MAGNIFICENT PICTURE QUALITY and COLOUR ( better then McGyver or A-Team series owned, made in the eighties) is awesome. It's too bad that a great show put into DVD production NOWADAYS in the UK, ( and around the world ) STILL lacks some sort of any, Closed Captioning, Hearing Impaired or Subtitle features. Don't the people that CAN NOT hear deserve MORE ATTENTION? Thus, my 4 stars are given. The series itself is deserving of 5 stars for it's picture quality and colour, even though the sound is AC3 2 channel. Here some information about the DVD's themselves: The box contains 13 colourful dvd's, each containing 2 episodes and a two page episode brief summary. Each episode is 40 to 45 minutes long. Extras are synopses, still galleries and character biographies, NO other language is available besides English. Please, note that I'm not hearing impaired, but I feel sympathetic with those who are, and I happen to love reading. At the end I still congratulate Fabulous Films for putting this great series on DVD. WELL DONE, but there is still room for improvement ( put some sort of subtitles, and a few more extras), then you will get 5 stars.

a great '70's series
I used to watch this when it first came out on dvd and longed for an upgrade to Blu-Ray, as the original transfer was quite poor ; well. here we have it and i hope it does us proud.

As good as I remember it
I had been concerned that with nostalgia I had made this series appear in my mind better than it was in reality. However, thought it is clearly of its period (early 1970s) the complexity of the story and the range of characters is still engaging and I have found myself really drawn back into it. There are a wide range of characters each distinct and each with their own story as they come to join the rebels. I think the '15' rating on the first half of the series is too high for modern audiences. Despite numerous fights, there is minimal blood. This used to go out at 6pm on BBC2 in the 1980s and that is the kind of level that it is appropriate for, so I suggest that people share this with their children. Back in the 1980s it was nice to see a story about people 'fighting a cruel and corrupt government' and once more in Britain that has echoes. A number of stories revolve around the mistreatment of women being opposed and this is a theme that needs to be seen more often given the behaviour of too many young people in our post-Feminist society. The seriousness of the story is leavened by comic characters and the dubbing can lead to comedy at times too, though all credit to the limited number of dubbers who managed to provide so many voices. Overall I was not disappointed and am sure people who remember this series or come to it new will enjoy it.

Hay que poner claro el idioma
Si no sabes inglés, a tu riesgo.
