Celebrate thirty years of a classic picture book by one of today’s most celebrated author-illustrators! A special anniversary edition. Hannah loves gorillas and longs to see a real one. Unfortunately, her father is always too busy — or too tired — to take her to the zoo. But on the night before her birthday, something extraordinary happens and Hannah’s wish finally comes true. Anthony Browne’s classic story of a girl’s moonlit night of adventure, courtesy of a surprising and kindly friend, returns in a larger trim size with striking cover art by the artist for the book’s thirtieth anniversary. Review: Anthony Browne is a gift for all ages - Browne's gifts for evoking empathy, imagination, reflection, and fierce wonderings about things that really matter, appeal to anyone who gets to interact with the text and illustrations in his books. Gorilla is a story that whispers feelings of isolation and feelings of being lonely or sad. But it also narrates an understanding of hope and possibilities for a freshness that any dream, emotion, or experience can offer one at any moment. The illustrations while seamlessly support the text, also offer a narrative of their own, providing ample opportunity to engage in discourse about topics ranging from animals in captivity to social class and cultivation of childhood. Gorilla can be read to the youngest of children, leading to celebrating places they would like to visit and about animals they especially admire and love and want to know more about. This is a book that you come back to many times, and with every new audience or reread of your own, you will find something else to connect to and think about. A picture book like this on your child's book shelf, says that you believe your child is intelligent and curious, and deserves books that his friends want you to read to them when they come visit! As far as school and public libraries...they should invest in every Anthony Browne book they can get their hands on. So happy to finally see his books being more accessible in the States. They are works of art. Review: Classic - This is a wonderful story that was loved by my children and now my grandchildren. The illustrations are beautiful and there is so much going on in each page that will grab your child’s attention. A classic!

The illustrations are exquisite and the story is touching
I was so entranced by the illustrations it took quite a while to get through this book but I finally did and was as awed by the story as I was by the illustrations, what a fantastic book. A lonely neglected little girl is rescued by her toy gorilla who takes her on a wonderful journey, brings her safely back, and we see a happy ending as her father shows her how much he really loves her.

Lovely
Lovely book, artfully moves between fantasy and reality. Id say it's a sad story about a child who longs for her father's attention, but he is too busy to spend time with her. She finds comfort in a toy gorilla who does what her father doesn't. The story ends on a hopeful note, and the sad parts are not portrayed as tragedies, still it's food for thought for children and adults ... My 3 year old loves it, and so do I.

Gorilla by Anthony Browne
Gorilla by Anthony Browne is a delightful read. Both adults and children will love it. And it is a great book to read aloud. The young girl (the main character) loves gorillas and has always wanted to go to the zoo and see an real gorilla, but her father never seems to have time. But when her father gives her a small toy gorilla for her birthday, something magical happens... Be sure and study every drawing and panel in this book carefully when you read it--the delightful, magical images will enchant and surprise you!

My dad and I used to check this book out of the local library each week - we both loved it. I'm so excited that I get to share it with my daughter now. The drawings are so beautiful and the story is so sweet!!!

Delightful
A sad little girl, whose father works too hard to spend time with her, is taken out by a gorilla. This is such a beautifully illustrated story that it will appeal even to children who are beginning to outgrow picture books. The pictures are expressive and full of jokes, and the story is sad, exciting and happy by turns. The point where the toy gorilla grows into a real one had my six year old niece shivering with excitement.

Genial!

主人公の女の子Hannah(小学生ぐらいでしょうか…) "I just wondered if you'd like to go to the zoo."
