Is the brush replaceable or is this a unit?

The actual brush part is not replaceable, but you can use them a few times before disposing. I'm a dental hygienist and recommend these brushes all of the time for their quality and essential of use.

Are the wires holding the brushes on more sturdy than the extra soft variety? I bought the short extra soft version, and the little brushes crushed up

Not sure as I have never used the extra soft ones. These tend to hold up well for several uses. I have purchased these multiple times.

How do I choose between the fat short brush and long-handled Tepe?

You are able to reach further back in your mouth and have better control with the long-handled Tepe, which is the one my hygienist recommended. I did try the short brush initially, but prefer the long-handled one. If you're still not sure, get a small supply of each.

What the brush head made of ? is it non toxic ,bpa free?
