Winger - Winger - desertcart.com Music Review: One of the best debuts of any band! - Winger was labeled a "hair band" by simply having big hair. Led Zeppelin and Nirvana had long hair too...just "big" in a different way. But why are most things that began in the '80's labeled as style over substance? There's no reason for any of that nonsense. This connotation nowadays is usually as negatively parodied as it was after sheer hatred of these groups during the 1990's and early 2000's (i.e. the "Winger kid" from Beavis and Butthead while B&B were wearing Metallica and AC/DC shirts...but "wait!", you might say: if it's all about the decade, didn't Metallica begin in the 1980's too?) and early 2000's. Groups of this era and the ones who survived were actually quite diverse and tried different things for their newer stuff. Listen to Ratt's debut "Out of the Cellar" and you'll find little in common here. The vocals, guitars, Winger's inclusion of well-used and unique keyboards ("Without the Night", "Hungry" and "Headed for a Heartbreak") sound quite dissimilar from Ratt's style...which at first was slightly heavier and quickly driven (yes people, heavy guitars aren't just an invention of grunge, nu-metal or Slipknot....they just change forms from more slick power chords to using different distortion techniques). Don't get me wrong: I love guitar and bass styles from all across the spectrum...or any instrument. Linkin Park has the best modern guitars of any band from the last decade and longer...and so does Rob Zombie...most notably the wonderfully-theatrical "Hellbilly Deluxe." But you'll still find Reb Beach doing earlier versions of those grinding methods on many of these tracks. Pay attention to the amazing "Hungry"; the biasedly-criticized, all-their-own cover of "Purple Haze"; and a contender for the best song on the album: "Time to Surrender." If you like a distinct sound from a genre referenced by lazy journalism, then pick this one up as you would want to from "thinking outside the amp" of any music period! Review: Music - Exactly as pictured and thank you!

Winger is excellent
I started listening to the cd as soon as I got it. Put it in my car, lowered the windows, and blasted the music. Wind was blowing in my hair, singing at the top of my voice (not bad if I do say so myself), and memories came flooding back. A great time in my life and it still is. Buy, buy, buy!!!

good album
though the 2nd album KILLS IT BIG TIME, this album is good. I happen to love the singles, so that's 3 songs down, there are some cool surprises on here, not including "purple haze", lol, ouch. Anyway, this album is good, though the production, and songs are better on heart of the young, though this is a must own for winger fans, this one and the album that follows is a great collection of songs to have handy.

This High Fidelity edition is hands down the best this album has ever sounded. The emerald green vinyl is stunning to look at, but the real star is the audio; the clarity and punch are incredible compared to the original 1988 pressings. From the opening riff of 'Madalaine' to the layers in 'Headed for a Heartbreak,' the instrument separation is crystal clear. The tip-on jacket feels premium and sturdy, and the overall presentation is exactly what a limited edition should be. If you’re a Winger fan or a vinyl collector, don't sleep on this one before it sells out!
