Does the job but be careful
With recent renovating in the house, wanted to give this a go. Its not to bad but you can only do a part at a time and then have to wipe down the shield per use. What I mean for example is that I had to paint above out skirting boards. Using this shield, I thought you could do a continuous run however found out that eventually the paint seeps underneath the shield and will make a mess. So I found in the end that it was easier having to do one small run with the length of the shield at a time and then wipe off the excess. Found that this was actually taking longer to paint and thought that masking would still have been quicker in the end. Plus I think the base line is too thick and should be a similar thickness to a jointing/taping plastering knife (longer ones) as these are very thin at the bottom thus better for example when I then needed to paint the top of the skirting. Don't get me wrong, I think for small jobs this is a good product to use but for bigger jobs, easier and quicker just to get masking done.

It works, kinda
By and large, this does the job. You'll get a straight line, but it needs you to have decent technique too. If you're a beginner, or a low-level DIY enthusiast, then don't expect that this tool will let you slap paint on and walk away with a perfectly straight line. You'll still get smudge, paint getting to the underside and transferring to the wall/ceiling. It's a good size and does allow for decent coverage without constant stopping and starting. Though if you're doing a larger room, you might find it a bit much. My technique isn't great, but I'd hoped this would help more. Hence the three stars, which might be slightly unfair. If you've decent technique, or are using this in a smaller room, then this could be a five start tool!

Am I missing something ?
I have given 5 stars because it is good value, good design and easy to hold, but for me it doesn’t work. Ok, so you hold it against the edge of door frame, skirting or whatever and paint, so that bit is easy, what could be more simple, but when you lift the paint guard away the paint on the guard kind of hangs on to the paint on the surface and the result is a mess. Maybe I’m doing it wrong but I have reverted back to a piece of cardboard which works great everytime. It was cheap and cheerful so I won’t try to return it or give a bad review because evidently I just don’t how to “master” it. Perhaps someone out there can enlighten me.

Great tool for cutting in
Recently I have been decorating my lounge, and changed from white walls to a colour. I am a decent diy painter but the cutting in with a colour was making me feel a little uneasy. This is really easy to use. You do need to wipe with a wet cloth everytime you go along, otherwise the wet paint moves along with it. This isn't a hard ship though for lovely edging at the top of your painting. It's allowed me to do a really good job, and people have commented how lovely it looks.

Not effective
The product is much larger than expected so I thought I’d work well for edging, however when used for painting, it didn’t protect the edges and bleeding occurred underneath, and when used to slice the edges of wallpaper it tore the paper. I didn’t find it of any use and wouldn’t say it’s worth the money.
