Explanations are good. Great book to learn from. Review: Excellent book - I am getting an undergrad in stats and have found that most of the stats courses offered through the math department at my university are geared either towards mathematicians (heavy on the proofs) or engineers/scientists with very little emphasis given to applying stats to business problems. On the other hand the applied stats courses offered through the business school are not nearly adequate in developing the underlying theory of either probability or statistical inference. This is an excellent book that bridges the space between business applications and mathematical statistics. I would highly recommend it to someone coming from either end of the spectrum (math vs. business).

Learning statistics---making it interesting
This book was a syllabus requirement for my statistics class. Statistics has never been a pleasure subject for me in high school or with my undergrad, but this book was easy to understand and learn from. It is already hard to learn and have great instruction with a semester program that is taught 100% online, so this book has helped me learn more about statistics with my own reading and comprehension of the subject matters in the book. There are examples in each chapter and some additional online teachings available with the book. I definitely recommend it for any statistics course.

One of the better quality statistics books out there
One of the better quality statistics books out there. Gets very in depth. You'll need a good instructor to guide you toward pragmatic solutions to some of this...

Great, but lacking.
This is a very solid book for learning about making sure a process is in control. While all the applications are with regards to manufacturing processes, every single thing in this book can be applied to any form of data analysis since that's really what quality control is at its heart: you measure data, you determine from said data if things are all right. There are a lot things done right with this book: the examples given are very in-depth, guaranteeing your understanding if you read them and don't just skim through the numbers to get the answers with the right calculations, the explanations on DMAIC and other various terms are given great care, and problems and questions are varied to give a solid understanding of the field. Finally, while a basic statistical background is assumed, Montgomery will walk you through exactly what you need for the rest of this book in two dedicated chapters. However, there are several problems. First, the examples themselves are not varied at all. You'll go through quite a lot of modifications and variations of an idea (especially in the control charts chapters), but the examples just stick to the basics. Also, other examples are "hidden in the text," so they're mixed in with the paragraph style. He'll also work out more than one problem that requires use of tables outside the range of what the tables in the book provide; that might be fine at an upper level, but this is such a lower level textbook you're bound to have several students who aren't totally used to looking up values in statistical tables and using them correctly to understand where some values come from if they're not on the tables. Otherwise, the book is solid. It's not theoretical, it's not meant to be--it was good enough for me to purchase a copy of and keep on my shelves because of how thorough WHY things are done the way they are done is explained, and I would recommend it to anyone to keep as a reference if they do this kind of work.

I had purchased "Statistical Quality Control: A Modern Introduction " as a reference book for my M.Tech study in Quality Management. Our professor had suggested this book. 1. I referred this book during the semester. It helped me a lot to understand the topics and clear the exam with good marks. 2. Language is lucid. The topics are well described. 3. Overall satisfied with this book. 4. Good choice to enhance your knowledge. 5. I recommend this book to all the students studying Statistical Quality Control.
