Modeling the Figure in Clay, 30th Anniversary Edition: A Sculptor's Guide to Anatomy Review: Want to learn? Buy this book - Beautiful Condition. This was one of two books, both by Lucchesi, I had when I started sculpting. If you need to understand what's beneath the skin, this is a great reference I saw several reviewers unhappy that this was a skeleton to finished sculpture. I, too, eschewed anatomy. I was too cool for anatomy. Fast forward several years... I am going back to my basics. The basics aren't as sexy as just charging forward and sculpting.. but if you do not understand what is going on under the skin, and this applies to fantasy beasts, animals, etc.. your sculpture will never sing. There will always be something awry. Review: spectacular ecorche course - If you are a representational figurative sculptor, and want to learn how to build the human body from the inside out, you cannot have a clearer how-to with pictures treasure book. 360 degree and close-up views are included with each step. Step by step, the master shows how to build the figure starting with the skeleton, and laying on each muscle, then fatty tissue and skin layer. Serious artists will benefit by getting a medical poseable skeleton, along with the 19th century classic "Artistic Anatomy" by Dr Paul Richer. Study hard, and do the exercise like you were in class with the teacher. There are no shortcuts, however, the dedicated few will advance exponentially, but only by having the patience and discipline to follow through. It pays to know more rather than less.

Process Photos are Great
Pretty similar to "Modeling the Head in Clay: Creative Techniques" in that it shows the process in great detail but does not give you too much information to bring to your own works. Got it at a great price used and makes an okay addition to my resource library.

Welcome reissue of a Classic
Bruno Lucchesi's own work is of the highest order. While he is no Bernini or Michelangelo, he certainly compares to modern masters such as the late Frederick Hart. Without doubt, he can walk the walk! He demonstrates and diagrams how a nascent sculptor with representational instincts can kick off his or her career on a solid note. Happily, the age of abstract expressionism in sculpture (as well as painting) is over. Once again atelier training (old master training) is the way to go, there for those who can afford it, and for those who can't, this 30th Anniversary reissue of Lucchesi's master manual is within reach of all. Congratulations, Bruno! I hope you are still with us. And still working!

Excellent Value
The book arrived in good time and in excellent condition as promised. It is a very informative and helpful text for a student (like my daughter) who has no experience with clay sculpting. I appreciate the very low price which is many dollars less than those at the school's bookstore. I wish we had known long before now that we could get her textbooks through Amazon; but then, why am I surprised? Amazon has just about anything you could want at a really good price!! Way to go, Amazon!

Great book, not so good digital presentation
This is a marvelous book for sculpture and anatomy, but in the Kindle edition the pictures are very grainy. You can see what is necessary in the photographs but there's not much detail. I used to get this book from the library and the pictures were sharp. I would still recommend it.

Great book!
This is a perfect book if you want to learn how to build a sculpture form bone, muscle, to skin. There are beautiful pictures of works he has done before I I like the detail that was put in each step. I loved how you can see the wonderful process from start to finish. It is amazing how much I have learned from the steps he takes here. So far I have a work-in-progress sculpture but it is turning out great!

OK I know...the anatomy ain't exactly accurate. Just look at where he puts the rectus femoris, and serratus posterior, and ... where's the vastus intermedius? But this book is beautiful; one I've always wanted and Bruno 's modelling technique is just marvellous. Buy it.
