Space Seating 57 Series Professional Dark Air Grid Back Manager's Adjustable Office Chair with Built-in Lumbar Support and Padded Seat, Black Bonded Leather

I bought both the Flash Furniture Mid Back Black Mesh Chair and the SPACE Seating Professional Dark Air Grid Back w/ Black Eco Leather Seat. I needed two chairs for my home office as I often have clients over. At the time of this review, both of these chairs are number one sellers on Amazon in their respective categories. At my previous employment I had an Aeron chair and funny enough I actually like both of these as much if not more. The Aeron had better casters and quality of construction but I always found it kind of mushy, and I had to constantly re tighten the arm rests as they tended become loose from their settings after a couple of hours. Consensus: Pleasantly surprised by both of them and I’m giving them both 5 stars for value and comfort. Note, I’m only in my first week with both. - Ease of assembly – Assembled both chairs within 15 minutes. The SPACE was in particular really easy. Both have the identical number of bolts used in identical places (10 for each chair). The Flash had slightly weaker instructions but overall both were very easy to assemble. I particularly like the touch of the SPACE chair where they warned on the box “don’t use a knife here to open” which could have led to cutting some of the fabric with a large knife. - Comfort – I am 5’ 9” 220 lbs (body builder) and I found both chairs very comfortable. I prefer a firmer cushion and good back support - both were excellent. Same thing on leg height. I had no issues with long terms seating when with past chairs my legs and ass could go numb. I’m currently using the Flash more, but that is because if reading a book or gaming, it’s nice to be able to tilt back. The SPACE has better casters and is better for hardcore grinding away at work if you want a rigid back. I’ve noticed people complaining that the chairs don’t go down far enough. At my height no problem. Especially once I added blocks under my antique oak table lifting it up higher. Perfect ergonomic feel now compared to what I had before. - Quality – The SPACE (made in Taiwan) has better quality construction and materials than the Flash (made in China). Aesthetically I find the SPACE better looking, The Flash has some nasty silver flashing on it, cheaper plastic, and IMHO leaving the nasty dust guards off made it look much better. If I had to bet money on it I think the SPACE will outlast the Flash. The quality of the cushions on the SPACE also seem a bit higher than the Flash. - Value – For the comfort I have now, if these chairs last a couple of years it’s an outstanding value. I seriously considered getting another Aeron and I’m glad I didn’t. I’m part of a start up now and I’m getting 90% of the comfort from the Aeron for literally 1/7th the price from each of these chairs. AND I now have two chairs. Killer value. Overall: Depending on what you want from an office chair they’re both great. The Flash has the advantage of adjust ability for different seating postures but the SPACE wins when it comes to old school, rigid back grind it out comfort – it just feels a little bit more stable.

My wife needed a chair for the home office that gave some lumbar support. It's always hard to find something that is ideal like a chair when buying online since you're doomed to description. What's in the box? Chair components Washers, screws and tool Screws do have blue Loktite or equivalent on the threads Assembly Using the little hex wrench was inefficient but I chose to doit that way. If I used my own, I'd be done in a fraction of the time. Assembly from unpacking the box, removing packaging, sorting the things and putting it together took about 20 minutes. The chair bottom is labeled to show which direction is the front. The base/swivel is also marked. I would have preferred the armrests to be labeled but they weren't. A quick look at the picture on the box, and I decided which direction the angled part of the rests went. Tip: use your own hex driver. Features Vacuum assist for raising and lowering with the lever. The tension of reclining is adjustable to some degree. The arm rests can be adjusted at 4 levels for about 7-8 cm of travel, up to down. Too bad the lumbar support is not adjustable. The leather seat is actually decent. I would rate it as firm on the scale of firm to plush. The back is vented and somewhat flexible. The arm rests feel firm and are made of some type of cheap leather. The frame of the chair is made of black nylon. There are 5 sets of wheels on this. The motion of wheels are smooth and relatively quiet for their construction (tested on hardwood floors, at least). The instructions warn against two people sitting on it concurrently. No worries there. There isn't any space for two, even if someone is sitting on my lap. It feels a touch more towards adequate for width. It is not a bariatric chair. Quality control There were some imprints on the underside of one of the arm rests. Not significant for me to call customer service. Likely, it got banged on the ride from China. There's that alarming carcinogen warning for Californians. I don't know what to make out of that. Conclusion For the price, it's a good enough chair. I'll give you an update once my wife has used it for a while.

I used to install office furniture (put myself through college that way) and know a fair amount about the construction quality of office chairs. I've probably assembled several thousand of them, everything from Global to Herman Miller to Hon. I've also built the cheap off-brand chairs that big-box office retailers sell. Usually, the less expensive the chair, the lower the quality. A good office chair from a top-shelf brand that matches this chair's design and characteristics would cost 2-3x what this chair does. Usually the difference in cost is due to poor quality plastic parts, a poor quality pneumatic lift mechanism, lower grade leather (if applicable), and junk casters that don't roll freely. After building this chair and testing it out, I can say that it is a very well made chair with quality parts, except for the arm rests. The pneumatics are strong and even and fully support even a large male (I weight 205lbs). The leather seat cushion is comfortable, not over or under stuffed, and sewn with heavy gauge stitching which won't fail quickly. The caster are adequate, and while not quite as nice as those on a premium chair, do roll easily and freely without getting stuck, even on office carpet. The mechanical levers for seat adjustments are well placed and are easy to adjust. The machine quality of the metal parts is good, and the whole chair assembly is firm and well built. The mesh back is responsive, firm, and comfortable. While not adjustable as on some much more expensive models, it does support a variety of back types adequately. If you prefer a very 'cushy' chair back such as an overstuffed chair, this is NOT the chair for you. This is a firm back and lower lumbar support type of chair. What this chair lacks is quality arm rests. They are concave, which is a decent design for those with thinner arms, but if you are a larger person, they can and will become uncomfortable. They are also made of slightly tacky plastic, which doesn't breathe and is much less desirable than leather arm rests in my opinion. Aside from the arm rests, this is a really nice office chair that's built to last. It's well worth the price, and is comparable enough to more expensive models to make it a solid purchase. Assembly tip: either get a 3-point Phillips head screwdriver or a hand wrench to tighten down the machine screws that attach the arms and chair base. A small screwdriver will not be sufficient and you'll find yourself needing to re-tighten them constantly. Trust me, it's better to get them extremely tight the first time around using the correct tool.

I work 10 hours of more at a computer every day and my >$1500 "ergonomic" chair was a disappointment. My desk is a table that is 31 inches tall, and it was a struggle to type at a keyboard all day since I was unable to raise the chair up high enough. In addition, I am 6 feet tall and my worthless expensive chair hit the back of my thigh, causing extreme pain and numbness after a few hours. I even tried using an expensive wheelchair cushion to raise me higher and to soften the irritation of my thighs, but nothing worked. I bought this chair because another reviewer wrote that the lowest seat setting was too tall. I knew, sight unseen, that this was the chair for me. This chair is WONDERFUL! It arrived within days, it was packaged well, and required only 13 screws and 6 washers to attach the arms, seat plate and seat cushion (it also included the Allen wrench so no tools are required). The instructions were beautifully written, the screws were even separately wrapped and well labeled so there is no way to put it together wrong. The arms are also labeled "left" and "right" so the only potential for messing up is not getting these on the right side of the seat. A little common sense and slowing down enough to know which is the "R" or "L" side of the seat is all it takes. I am not a physically strong person, but I put it together easily myself in around 10 minutes. The heaviest part was lowering the seat/back/arms onto the "hole" to the pneumatic cylinder that is in the base. Make sure you know which hole to place the body of the chair, as I kept trying to place it on the adjustable tension button on the bottom of the seat, instead of placing it in the correct hole that engages the pneumatic cylinder. Once I figured it out, it was simple to place the chair together. The seat is a thick padded leather seat that is SOOO much more comfortable than the open weave seat of my worthless expensive chair. The back is open weave, which I like. There is an adjustable tension button on the bottom of the seat that can be loosened to allow the back to tilt or rock. On the right side of the chair is the lever to activate the pneumatic cylinder to raise the chair up to 23.5 inches high, or lower to 19.5 inches high. This same lever can be pulled out to allow the back to tilt/rock, or pushed in to lock the back into place. The casters are heavy-duty plastic and work well on my floor. The arms are a heavy-duty padded plastic that can be raised up and down with the push of a button. I had expected it to be of poor quality from reading the other reviews, but am pleased to find the quality is excellent and will serve its purpose well. Compared with my overpriced worthless chair, it has metal in the wheels, base, and back, but who cares, the heavy-duty plastic in my new office chair should hold up nicely.

The chair I received is different from chair pictured here, but I am not complaining. The only difference is the seat design. Both, I assume, are "eco-leather," but my chair is not one smooth surface. Instead, it has a stitched design (see picture). IMO, the stitched design looks less prone to tears. Whether this is true, I have no way of knowing. Either way, I think it looks better than a plainly smooth surface. The seat is comfortable and wide! I'm a 36" waist and there is absolutely zero leg confinement in this chair. I didn't realize it before, but this leg freedom makes all the difference when it comes to comfort. The back tilt locking mechanism is easy to use: push the lever in to lock and pull out to unlock. This chair raises very high! I'm 5"10, and when this chair is raised completely, my feet don't touch the ground. On that note, when raised fully, the chair feels less stable; It wiggles a little bit, but not much. The armrests are adjustable in 6 heights. The armrests are not plush padded but are padded with a more firm material. The armrests are indented slightly so arms feel like they are sitting in a super shallow pool (can't think of a better way to describe it). The back provides fairly good back support. I definitely wouldn't call it super lumbar support or anything, but it's good enough to sit in for hours at a time. My lower back bothers me sometimes and this chair does not cause me any discomfort. Casters roll on my fairly thick carpet with adequate push. This chair is just sturdy all around. It doesn't feel cheap. For the price, I'm not sure there is a better option. Box came pretty banged up, but all content inside was perfect.

I've only had this chair for a couple of hours, so can't testify as to how it holds up over time (and if I don't review it now, I never will...) Initial impressions are: love it. The thing I noticed immediately was the superb lower back support. The back of the chair is molded in such a way that it curves into your lower back; this isn't even something I was necessarily looking for in a chair. In fact, I'm wondering why on earth I sat in my old chair so long with back pain...I didn't know such an alternative existed. The back of this chair naturally supports good posture. The original reason I bought this chair was for the raising mechanism. It is somewhat tough to find a chair with a decent pneumatic height that doesn't fall under the barstool or drafting stool category. My desk is 30" high without a keyboard tray, and I was beginning to get some arm pain from having to effectively tilt my arms upward to type. I have the chair maxed out, and it seems to measure about 22 inches from the bottom of the floor to the top of the cushion. At this height, my feet don't touch the floor (I'm around 5'5) but I'm okay with that, since my primary concern was seat height. Added bonus for those who frequently sit cross-legged: In most chairs, I find this difficult to do because of the way the armrests push into the sides of my legs. On this chair, however, I can sit Indian-style with the flat tops of the armrests resting on top of my legs. Possibly not ergonomic, but awesome for me! Putting it together was literally as if it was designed for dummies. This isn't one of those things where it is supposed to be easy and you end up perplexedly staring at a diagram. Every piece is labeled, the screws are even labeled, and the necessary Allen wrench is included. It can be assembled in 20 minutes.

It was very easy to put together, took about 30 mins. The quality is pretty good. The wheels are pretty slick making the chair incredibly easy to move especially on wood floors. The chair is decently comfortable. The seat is pretty stiff and a bit too hard for my taste, I have seen worse though. The arm rests are a bit far apart and wobbly, but are good enough. The back feels the best due to it being a mesh. This is the first mesh chair I've had and I like it a lot. The biggest disappointment for me is the height of the chair. I had no clue the chair would be this high up even on the lowest setting. My desk feels a bit too short for this chair, my legs hit my keyboard try from time to time now. I suppose I can get use to the chair being this high up, it's just a drastic change from my old chair that went way way lower. On the highest setting it has the height of my bar tools. Overall I feel like paying $165 was a bit too much, $120 would be the sweet spot honestly. Also if you're not at least 5'10 I recommend passing on this chair.

Because I've only had limited experience with this chair and so can not judge its longevity, I am giving it four stars. (My expectation and hope is that it turns out to be a 5-star purchase.) I purchased this chair based on the reviews posted by other Amazon buyers. I had tried similar chairs with a ventilated back in stores and liked that feature. This chair assembled quite easily. (No missing parts.) Following tips by others, I made sure to really cinch down every screw/bolt as I assembled the chair. The materials of construction appear to be good. I'm pleased that the cushion is covered with fabric and not bonded leather. (My old chair had bonded leather that started separating from the underlying fabric shortly after I purchased it.) This chair doesn't lower as close to the floor as my old one. Nevertheless, it does provide a comfortable fit. (I am 5'-9" tall with a 29" inseam; so I'm a little on the short-legged side.) I opted to install the arm rests (no problem identifying left from right). They are comfortable with adequate "give" when I lean into them. My keyboard is on a fold-out tray below the desktop, and the armrests can be positioned to provide me with the right amount of support while I work. Unlike some more expensive models, this chair has a single control under the seat. This control can be used to adjust height above the floor and lock/unlock the back to prevent/allow reclining. (A "screw" control under the front of the cushion allows the user to adjust the amount of "give" in the back when you recline.) I personally prefer a single control; I've tried chairs with multiple controls and find that they provide me with little utility. UPDATE 9/13/13: I initially thought the seat cushion was covered with a fabric. (I assembled the chair under artificial light.) I now realize in the light of day that the covering is a textured leather. My star rating remains unchanged; if this chair outlasts my first chair, this will turn out to be a 5-star purchase. UPDATE 10/9/19: This chair is still in first rate condition. There has not been any deterioration in the fabric or any other components of the chair. As a result, I am revising my rating upward to five stars.

Love this task chair, nice design, not cumbersome, comfortable and very easy to put together(10 minutes), and not too expensive either. Very sturdy as well. Thanks Amazon:)

Excellent chair for a home office. Assembly took less than 10 minutes. I’ve had it for only a few days but I find it very comfortable and easy to make positional adjustments.
