Soothes CAT'S tummy!
My cat with IBD suffers typical symptoms including nausea and upset stomach. I read and now wholeheartedly believe that slippery elm works like Pepto-Bismol (which is toxic to cats), coating the tummy and providing swift relief to cats and I'd imagine all pets. It does a myriad of other medicinally beneficial things for cats that I encourage everybody to do a quick online search. I promise you'll be amazed! This is a an absolute MUST item in my kitty medicine arsenal. NOW brand is an inexpensive yet 100% trustworthy source of quality SEP - - which is critical, as I've actually tried a couple other brands in capsule form that appeared legit but once prepared smelled noxious/burned, thus obviously NOT pure & full of God knows what random fillers. **I mix ONE heaping TBSP in 1/2cup cold water in a glass sauce pan, bring to boil then immediately reduce to simmer for 3-5mins. Stir/whisk constantly (I use a fork). Finished product will be think, gelatinous (PERFECT to soothe tummy), some call it "gruel". I fill a 5 cc syringe & administer orally then store remaining gruel in fridge for up to 1 week. FYI - You can't really mess up proportionately so don't sweat it! Above pep method is preferred but in a pinch, you can forgo boiling & simply mix & serve. For single dose, I eyeball appx 1/2 TSP powder to maybe 1 TBSP water. Good luck!

This stuff worked for my dog! No more skipping meals and gurgling stomach!
My dog had been vomiting on and off and/or not wanting his food(chicken, rice, vegetables mixed with wet dogfood). When he didnโt get better with bland homemade food, I was about to try pepto bismol on him. Then I came across slippery elm while reading a website from a wholistic vet. Slippery elm was an ingredient in their healthy tummy mix. So began the research! He has been on it for a month now (I mix two tsp powder into two cups hot water, mix well with whisk. Then refrigerate and I have enough for 5-6 days. I started three meals a day instead of two. I give all homemade chicken, rice and Vegs. Morning and evening I add two tbsp slippery elm liquid to his food. Dog is 13 yrs. and heโs 30 lbs. Mid afternoon at 3 p.m. I give the dog his meal with his vitamin, probiotic, and pumpkin powder but no slippery elm because supposedly it wonโt let his body absorb the vitamins etc. It may seem too much for some of you, but for my dog to feel great, stay regular and be happy and not hurting makes it worth it for me. He is a changed dog! After two years of belly issues off and on, now Iโve found Slippery Elm! So happy.

Must cook first
First slippery elm Iโve had that required cooking before use. Otherwise seems good!

Helpful for UC
I bought this product because I have UC and it was recommend for my gut lining. I have been using it for a few days now with other supplements, and although I cannot 100% attribute my symptons tothe slippery elm, I will share that my bowel movements have not gotten worse. I really think that the slippery elm has helped with preventing inflammation. I drink this in the mornings, on an empty stomach, I drink it with warm water. I read somewhere it is not recommended it to drink it with boiling water. I will say it doesnt mix well. There's definitely some leftovers and chunks after I'm done drinking it. I typically just add more water and dont really mind it. The color is a little muddy, it doesnt look appetizing and it tastes a little earthy, but I dont mind. I think the color and taste are bearable. Once I am done drinking it, I wait a couple of minutes to let in do its thing before I consume the rest of my morning supplement routine.

This has no mucilaginous effect at all and does not help stomachs
Slippery elm helps stomach issues because it has mucilage that coats your stomach. I've had gastritis for 12 years and have used this wonderful herb to stop the pain. Slippery elm is supposed to be slimy and slippery- like the whites on an egg when you crack it. Or like the juice from an aloe plant. Those things will stick to your finger and it takes a long time under running water to get the aloe or raw egg off. This slippery elm is nothing like that! It has no mucilage at all in it, so I do not know what part of the elm tree this came from. It is 100% useless for helping a stomach problem. It forms a foamy, sawdust slurry that is not slippery- and fills your mouth with hundreds of tiny grit particles after you swallow. It rinses off from the spoon in 1 second under running water. It does not coat or help your stomach because it contains no mucilage. I really don't know what is wrong with companies that try to pass this stuff off as slippery elm. This is the second time I've bought slippery elm that is this bad a quality. The first time was from Mountain Rose Herbs- one of the best herb companies there are- and whom I've bought several times from before that was excellent quality. They must be using the same bad supplier that is sending them this defective and inferior product. Microingredients slippery elm here on Amazon is strongly mucilaginous and of excellent quality but it is painfully priced at $49 a lb. I guess I will be forced to buy theirs after I've wasted almost that much on my last 2 bad purchases.

Updated shake the bottle of powder before you mix to get the best chance of a gloopy mixture
I am updating my review. The previous one is down below. Iโm adding a picture. It turns out that the bottle is not consistent in terms of the powder so today when I got the scoop of powder and added roiling bubbling boiling water to it, it created quite a clump of viscous slippery goo, which is what we all want from slippery out so my suggestion is shake the bottle and try to stir it up because it may be that youโre getting the outside of the bark in some scoops and the inside that gets slippery in another scoop and itโs not homogeneous so I changed my review to five star stars today October 23. This is the previous review the words after this :This is not slippery and it doesnโt create a viscous substance. I follow the directions, but this is a very dark powder and it doesnโt Gloup up as it seems slippery. I was supposed to do the directions were to simmer it in hot water for a few minutes not just put it in cold water and drink it. I tried both, but it never got more than just something that colored the water and it didnโt create a viscous substance and I read that thatโs what slippery I was supposed to do. I shouldโve read the other reviews. Iโm not sure if itโs had any impact on my digestion yet, but I did wanna comment that this does not create a vicious substance so anyone who expects that donโt buy this product and the same thing happened with the capsules I opened up the capsules and it was a dark powder, not a light tan sand colored powder, and itโs the same stuff in the capsules as in this bottle of powder

Helpful for people suffering from constipation
Take 2 full spoon of slippery elm powder. Add it to 300ml water. Boil it for 5 mins. Let it drop to warm temperature. Drink this 15-20 mins before any meal just once a day. (You can even add a spoon of haritaki or amla powder to the boiling water.) This is my 2nd Now Foods slippery elm powder bottle. I tried it first time when my sibling brought it. Now I got one. Tried many methods but it works only before taking any meal.
