Sometimes the higher priced items actually are really worth it.
I absolutely love this chair. I'll get to the cons in a moment but regardless it is still worth it. You see, I work from home in front of a computer and would literally burn through chairs practically every year. I have done the gamer chairs, the office chairs, the Amazon Basics budgets, and then some. It seemed that each year or so I would drop another 2-300 on a new chair and be sort of happy with my purchase (at first.) Mind you, I am writing this review two and half years after my purchase. This is already beyond the normal lifetime of many of the other chairs I have bought. The seat plates would deflate, the gaskets would blow, the castors would break, and so on. Each and every time it would be shortly outside of my ability to get a refund or repair. None of those issues exist with this chair. The only problems I have are cosmetic like having a coffee spill stain on the seat. Even that, I plan on fixing (which was my own fault and not an issue with the chair obviously,) with some upholstery cleaner. Regardless, even if anything does become an issue, Steelcase has an amazing 12 warrantee. Okay, now for the cons. One minor and one annoying but also minor. The first con is that you have to sort of learn how to sit differently than you would with a lot of other chairs. It took some getting used to in understanding the "live back" system how the reclining function of the chair works. I love it now, but it did take a bit of getting used to. The second is me just being a bit annoyed about paying so much for something and feeling that there are areas where the craftmanship is just not up to spec. Granted, they are mostly in areas you wouldn't be interacting with but there are sharp edges and loose movements in areas that I feel should be tight and clean. If I am going to pay around a grand for a chair, I want that to be polished. Still though, I am giving this a five star because in the end, it will be a cheaper chair for me than the dozen or so cheap and mid-range chairs I have bought over the years. ...and is more comfortable.

Durability and comfort worth the price
Bought one for my home because I have this chair at my office and loved it so much. Highly durable with an excellent reclining system that can be tensioned for lumbar support without having to lock it upright. The reclining will still squeak a little when tensioned since it uses friction, but if you lock it upright or release tension it will be completely quiet. Assembly is also incredibly easy, don't bother paying someone to do it for you, it's literally just peg-to-hole and done. Three pieces.

chair not level, left side higher by maybe a finger, 3/8''
bought the chair a week ago. liked it initially, but after a week my left lower back starts to feel funny and pain. then I realized that the left side felt higher, both the seat and the left arm rest (when adjust to highest and lowest position). I used a level and found indeed, seat is not level. First picture shows bubble of level on the left side of chair (when sitting on it your left side); second picture shows bubble of level still on the left side of chair after turning chair 180 degrees (so it's the chair's problem not the floor). third picture shows if i put my fingers under the level and jam up the right side of level, bubble returns to middle of level, so the left side is about a finger higher than the right side. When the arm rests are raised to the highest, the right arm rest is level with my desk, but the left side of arm rest is noticably higher, again, maybe higher by a finger. This obvious problem shouldn't have passed quality control before shipping. I've requested customer support on Steelcase's website and will update this review as it develops. update: on 8/31/2021 Steelcase promptly replied me, and provided some instructions for me to try to fix this, but not successful. they offered me warranty, and also suggested that Amazon has 30-day free return policy. I've returned the product to Amazon. I'm changing from 1-star to 2-star due to prompt customer service. I hope this review will be helpful to Steelcase and other customers. If other customers experience the same issue, a recall may be needed.

Great chair with some minor issues
The chair is great so far but I do think its only worth buying when it goes on sale and even then it is still pricey. Overall I really appreciate the adjustability and comfort of the arm rest and lumbar support. Once I found the optimal setup for the chair I started to enjoy using it more. It is very easy to assemble since all you have to do is place it on the base when you take it out of the box. Some reviews have said that the arm rests move too easily but I have not had this issue so far. I have had this chair only for about a month so I can't say anything about the durability of the chair. As for the issues with the chair I only have minor complaints. I think the lumbar support is a bit aggressive which is something to be aware of. The other issue I have is the price. I do not think this chair is worth around $1,000 when not on sale. I waited for it to go on sale and I still feel like the price was pushing it at $800. Long story short I like the chair, but I think its worth waiting for it to go on sale since the price seems higher than it should be.

Don’t buy unless you get new
I purchased this chair because we have them at work and they are good quality. I did opt to purchase one used, like new with mint condition as the description. The chair arrived damaged as if it had been dropped. Metal was bent that had to be corrected before the arms could be assembled. And even after that one arm is still a cm or two higher than the other. Obviously the seller’s QC is not what it should be since they consider this mint condition. I kept the chair but will never buy another unless it’s new. That said, the chair is comfortable.

Very comfortable all day office work chair
Purchased open box return which arrived very fast, most likely direct from previous return customer. Chair arrived with back rest damage, something heavy landed on top of box and separated pad from back rest. Back rest had bend and dent but I was able to make a full repair, not sure if others could though. Chair works 100% like new except for a dent and couple bent areas in back rest that you do not feel when sitting on. I am 6’ and 240lbs and chair is great, would of liked an option to attach a head rest but I’ll be ok. It’s a great unassuming office chair that doesn’t get the looks of others so I am glad I didn’t pay the full price and to be honest, now that I have been using it for a couple of weeks, my mind has changed and I wouldn’t have minded paying full price now either. It’s a great work chair. Seat is very comfortable, back is comfortable, overall well built chair. I overly scrutinize and critique everything and the only complaint I have is that there’s a slight bend to back rest from previous damage. Those taller than 6’ should probably look at Steelcase Gesture or Leap V2 as those have taller backrest and or head rest options but those chairs are a lot more money. I think this Amia chair has a more comfortable seat pad anyways and I can use this chair for 8 hours a day and have no pain or stiffness in my back or legs. I cannot say that about other chairs. Great job Steelcase!

Great chair for long periods of seat time
We use the Steelcase Amia chairs at work, and in the 8 years I've been there, I have yet to break one. I cannot say the same for the (at least 5) cheap office chairs I've previously owned for home office use. Finally I gave in and spent good money on a Steelcase for home, and I do not regret it one bit. I should have done that a long time ago. This chair is designed and built to be sat in for extended periods of time. Combine that with the fact that you'll easily spend this much money replacing cheaper chairs, and you'll soon see the value in owning a good chair like this. This chair has the carpet wheels, fully adjustable armrests, seating depth, and lumbar support. The carpet wheels seem to roll even easier than the rollerblade wheels I had on my previous chair. The cloth is durable and looks good too. The chair is big and strong enough to fit my 6'5", 275 lb. frame. Fit and finish are pretty good also. It came fully assembled and ready to go. Get one. Your butt will thank you.
