A biography of the nineteenth-century English missionary who encouraged the growth of indigenous Christian missions throughout the Pacific islands. Review: One of the best tiles in the series. - A fascinating true story of hardship, creativity and mostly Godโs purpose for this manโs life. Review: Great read - I love all these books. Reaching the people of the Polynesian Islands
As an apprentice ironmonger in 1814, John was planning on spending the evening drinking with his friends but ended up being invited to church by his employer's wife! That night changed his life! In November 1816, John and his wife Mary, set sail for the Polynesian Islands arriving on the island of Moorea one year later. God used John's talents to build buildings and ships as well as aiding him to spread the gospel, with the help of others throughout the islands. As they attempted to visit other islands, some made it very obvious that they were not welcome. Where human sacrifice and cannibalism was most times considered the norm, a word of warning needed to be well heeded! This is just one book in the amazing series Christian Heroes: Then and Now. Although challenging with real and many times dangerous/sad situations we read this as a family during family devotions. (WARNING: It does have a cannabalistic ending!) See how God can take an ordinary person and change them into an extraordinary person for HIM! John Williams - 1796 to 1839

my review of Christian Heros: then and now John Williams
This is a really good book. You can tell he really has a passion to be a missionary. He is preaching in the Pacific islands. He has trouble trying to get around to the islands and wants a boat, but the London Mission Society wont let him. He keeps trying to preach the gospel even though it's hard to get to different islands, and God rewards him for it.
