Master the basics of the most popular style of cartooning with The Manga Artist's Workbook by Christopher Hart, a bestselling author in the field of art instruction. You'll learn the fundamental proportions of the manga face and figure, how to draw those large sparkling eyes, and how to create hairstyles and costumes that make each character unique. A sketchbook and art tutorial rolled into one portable journal, this workbook contains tracing paper, blank practice pages, and exercise to help you become a true manga artist. Review: Challenging, but thorough and all inclusive - This is a bit more advanced than I had expected. It’s not bad, just very challenging for a beginner. It teaches the proportion of the face at different angles, bodies, hands, even costumes and not from a normal perspective but from the stylized manga and anime point of view. The book is spiral bound on the top. It’s easy to hold it and draw in it on your lap because of the size and the firmness of the book. You draw, and in some cases trace, directly in the book. This is a perfect rainy day activity kit for children or adults. All you need is a pencil, sharpener, and eraser. Maybe grab a sketchbook for extra practice. Review: Nice drawing tutorial book - My daughter is really into anime series and loves to try to draw characters, so I thought this was perfect. I was right, she loves it, takes it with her everywhere she goes and draws instead of playing on her smartphone. Pretty good deal to me! I don't draw in it but I do draw pencil sketches myself, and I have to say it's a really nice little instructional book with clear, concise examples that guide you through drawing your characters and making them look (anime) realistic. Definitely recommended for the artsy anime fan :)

Great Workbook!
This book is really great. It goes through all the different elements of drawing Manga from the facial structure, to body poses, even to how to do female hands versus male hands. I bought it for my teenage niece and she thought it was awesome. I think it's a great tool for anyone want to learn more. I really like that it has space for you to practice in the book, so it's a how to book and sketchpad in one.

Perfect Workbook for Beginners
This workbook is the best place to start for any person aspiring to draw manga and anime. The instructions are well provided and explicitly detailed, and the methods cover a wide range of the aspects needed to draw aesthetically pleasing manga characters. I only have three critiques, and here they are: 1. The book itself is rather awkward. The spiral binding can cause for some turning problems, and the trace paper is so oddly placed that it is rendered completely useless. 2. The workbook is specifically tailored to follow a certain manga style. There are many different manga and anime styles in Japanese animation, so you are sort-of restricted to one style if you follow the steps. 3. As this is more of a foundational book, many tips, steps, and pointers that are essential will not be present. Therefore, when you complete the book, you do not feel completely confident that you have learned everything I recommend this workbook for any beginner interested in learning the art of drawing manga and anime characters; take my word as you see fit.

Very good book for aspiring manga artists
We originally purchased this book for our older daughter, and it was such a great instructional tool that we had to order a second one for our younger daughter. It comes with tracing paper inside the book and goes over exactly how to draw different aspects of manga. Even though both daughters have completed their books, they still go back and reference the information when working on a new drawing. They love it!

Excellent gift!
I bought this for my 15-year-old sister who loves anime and manga and is interested in drawing, and she loves it. Her art production has increased and she is creating wonderful manga characters. I would say this book has already shaped her drawing style, and she’s been experimenting with the different techniques. It’s easy to understand, and would recommend for anyone interested in art or anime and manga. Also a great way to get started learning to draw.

Great gift
Gave it to my nephew for Christmas. He’s been obsessed with it and it’s helped inspire him to draw more as well as given him a better understanding how to draw. I’m so excited that he got inspired by this and I hope it keeps him interested.

Is great for beginners, but....
This is a must have book for beginners, but if you're buying "Manga For The Beginner - Everything you need to start drawing right away!" As well, by the same author, then I suggest you buy the one I just mentioned, because I accidentally bought both of them and realized that this "Manga Artist's Workbook" is the exact same as Manga for beginner. Same guidelines, same characters. But "Manga for the Beginner" is much more detailed and useful.
