GNU Emacs is the most popular and widespread of the Emacs family of editors. It is also the most powerful and flexible. Unlike all other text editors, GNU Emacs is a complete working environment -- you can stay within Emacs all day without leaving. The GNU Emacs Pocket Reference is a companion volume to O'Reilly's Learning GNU Emacs , which tells you how to get started with the GNU Emacs editor and, as you become more proficient, it will help you learn how to use Emacs more effectively. This small book, covering Emacs version 20, is a handy reference guide to the basic elements of this powerful editor, presenting the Emacs commands in an easy-to-use tabular format.

Use it all the time...
As Emacs is my favorite editor, this hand book comes in really handy, especially if you don't use some of the items enough to need refreshing. I don't always use the dired mode, but find it useful in a number of areas, so it's always at my fingertips. I'd suggest it, and you can write your own extensions on the cover backs.

Great for any new Emacs user.
If you are new to Emacs, the I would recommend this book to you. It gives you all of the key commands that you need right at your fingertips. If you new to learn Emacs, get a full featured book, but also get this one. You will probably find yourself referencing this book quite often until you remember all of the common keystrokes.

A Fine Guide to Emacs
It is what is it is; It's a pocket guide. It's not exceptionally informative, but it provides baseline guidance for some of Emacs' many features. If you're already a user of emacs, chances are you'll get a little something out of this book that you didn't know existed before (I'm using Emacs diary and calendar now...) but it's mostly good to throw at subusers while yelling at them to RTFM because they're always complaining to you that they don't know how to use Emacs...

Quick and Easy Access to emacs foo...
It's pretty tough to beat this pocket reference to emacs. It makes looking up both common options and less common commands and modes simple and quick. If you're an emacs user, this book is a must have -it's easier than apropos and quicker than C-h ?.

Needs Serious Overhaul
This book appears to be nice and indeed is, but it's too basic even for beginners. If you're a beginner, it won't do you any good because it's too simple yet to understand what it is about. If you're an advanced user, it's again too basic and lacks a lot of important references that should have been included (regexps, table commands, squeleton text commands, etc.). Take my advice: if you need a reference, buy the complete reference book from GNU Press which in return, has a pocket reference card attached to it (which BTW, you can also download for free...)

Useful even for someone who has used one version of Emacs or another since 1985 ...
Very useful. Shows I have much more to learn about an old friend of over 30 years ...

An useful companion to Learning GNU Emacs
This pocket reference covers the most helpful keyboard shortcuts for Emacs. It is a companion book, and as such, it is not enough to get started with Emacs.

Not the edition pictured
It was not the edition pictured. It appears to be the first edition. But I won't complain. I'm a beginner so it works. And the price was right. Thanks.
