How to Draw a Dragon: "Cautiously approach the dragon, offer it a piece of candy or a little sister, and draw while it happily munches away." From the artist behind the wildly popular NeonDragonArt.com, DragonArt will help you create mythical beasts that awe, delight, and disturb the sweet dreams of little ones. Armed only with your trusty pencil and ink pen, you will begin your artistic quest by conquering a super-easy dragon that even the densest of wyvern could draw. With pace quickened by this cool achievement, you shall forge bravely onward to discover simple secrets and spiffy tricks for making your creature friendly or fierce, sorrowful or cynical—drawing them from all different perspectives, in flight or at rest (so vain, those dragons—they love to strike a pose!) and incorporating various styles of heads, limbs, wings, horns, frills, scales, tails and other details to make your particular beast original, believable and so darn groovy. Because dragons enjoy having others around to terrorize, disembowel and occasionally hang out with, this book will also teach you how you to populate your alternate universe with a whole cast of fantastic creatures, including mythical griffins, guardian gargoyles and deadly basilisks. All this within the curiously compelling, beautifully beastly, and brightly colored pages you hold in your hands, which by now are no doubt trembling with keen anticipation. So quit dragon your feet! (Ugh, wyrms hate puns!) Buy this book now and make your wildest, wickedest, fire-breathingest fantasies come true! Review: Good Part to a Good Series - As a kid, I looked at many how-to art books, and they just never really helped me with anything; I couldn't follow them, or they were drawing in a way I didn't enjoy. So when I looked at this for my son's gift (thank you previews!), I dug deep into the meat of the book to glean just how useful it would be. I was surprised to see that the tips were both useful and easy to digest, the style/look was perfectly style-neutral, the designs were cool, and the whole thing was presented in an easy to understand way...it even had some cute, funny jokes and silliness on the pages and such that almost felt like a friend was there walking you through the process. My son loved the books (got several in the series at once), and enjoyed doing the practice exercises and designs. I wish I had these when I was learning to draw as a kid... Awesome!
I purchased this for an 11-year-old who loves to draw and loves dragons. This book is really cool because in addition to all the pictures of dragons, it has sections dedicated to different styles of different parts. For example, there are several pages showing different styles of wings, different styles of legs, different styles of claws, different styles of heads, etc. So you're not just copying the drawings in the book, you're really learning to mix and match to come up with your own creations. There are also tips on blending colors, shading, and highlighting to take your drawings to the next level! If you get tired of dragons, about 1/3 of the book is dedicated to other fantasy creatures. I think I'm going to pair this with a sketchpad and a set of color pencils for a really nice Christmas gift. I know the recipient will be thrilled! I'm actually checking out all the other books from Dragonart. I didn't realize there were so many but I know we'll be getting more because I'm really impressed with this one! ================ Update: I wasn't wrong. My 11-year old started right off the bat trying to draw the dragon on the cover and was a little frustrated at how silly it looked. So then he dove into the lessons. Here's the interesting thing. On Christmas day, he got this book with a sketch pad and an Android tablet and headphones. The rest of the gifts had to wait a few days till my stepkids came home. Over and over, he asked me if he could listen to music on the tablet while drawing. He wasn't gorging on Minecraft and Terraria and YouTube...he was choosing drawing over all that. A+++ in my book!

Dragons and... more dragons!
Well, this is one little book you'll really like if you wish to learn the basics of Dragon Drawing. It's full of details and lessons that will get you drawing a dragon with relative ease, and, if you practice enough, developing a knack for it. I must say, however, this is mostly a practical "I show, you copy" kind of book, which is not wrong at all. The thing is you can only get so far by merely reading it. The tools that the author provides are enough to draw your own dragons, yes, but you gotta try them at your own pace and in your own terms to truly master them. It takes a while, unless you already know your pencil-handling, but it's really satisfying to get it right. Anyway, there's a lot to be learned from this book: different shapes become different kinds of dragons, anatomy for an imaginary creature, different details you can add to your magnificent Wyrm, and enough examples to show how these principles merge into amazing art. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who is taking the first steps into fantasy art. And, if you combine it with other books by Peffer -the new one on dragons or the one about other fantasy creatures- you will surely get the most of them. Believe me, I have done it.

Dragon Art: How To Draw Fantastic Dragons And Fantasy Creatures
I bought this book not to draw dragons, but for inspiration in sculpting them. As for its instruction for drawing, it's top notch. So easy to understand and follow each step from the first line to finished scetch. There's ample discussion on detailing as well. The basic structures for drawing work for sculpting as well, even though one is for 2D art, and the other is a 3D manifestation. Beginning with an underneath structure and building upon that layer by layer is well demonstrated for each project. The artwork is fantastic, too. It's well written and well laid out.

Replacement
I loved the illustrations and how this book described how to draw dragons, i had this book for years before it was lost unexpectedly, for a time i didn't bother replacing it, but suddenly a few years ago i decided i wanted the book back. The book came in great condition and now that I've had the book for a few years its still in great condition and looks the same as when i bought it. No folds or tears when i received the game. Great buy. PS I'm not a bot....... :D

Art that doesn't drag on.
Nice large, thick book (124 pages) on quality paper. There are three major parts to this book. Fantastic Dragons, Unique Details and Other Fantasy Creatures. Each section within the parts is devoted to a part of the dragon's body. There are pictures of a finished dragon of the type being worked on. And there are several beautiful full page illustrations of finished full paged dragons. There are explanations of types of dragons, i.e. Western dragons as opposed to Easter dragons. If you have a middle schooler of teen interested in dragons and art, this a sure to please item for him/her. I bought it for my granddaughter for a Christmas gift. And I will pair it with a set of nice colored pencils, a good artist pencil sharpener and an artists tablet.

All kinds of dragons
Who isn't fascinated by dragons? The decades-long success of Anne McCaffrey's Pern and the DragonLance Chronicles show that young people and their elders alike love these sometimes-benevolent, sometimes-villainous, and always artogenic (if that's a word!) creatures. "Neondragon" Peffer is one of the best dragon artists around, and even if (like me) you can't draw a straight line without a ruler, you can still appreciate this instructional book purely as a collection of paintings. Her dragons come in all imaginable colors, with all kinds of wings, heads, limbs, tails, you name it. There's also a large section of other mythological and fantastical creatures such as the Phoenix, Chimera, Pegasus, and many others. And, of course, as an art instruction manual it's detailed and useful.

Great item
My daughter loves to draw. At age 13 i found her one day pouring over a picture of a dragon and getting so frustrated. She said she could see the image of the dragon in her head but couldnt make it look the same on paper. I hit the internet and found this book. 10 years on and her drawings are amazing. She has a page on DeviantArt and sells her drawings there, not just of dragons but manga and chubbies. She has now passed this book on to a young family memeber who is following in her footsteps. It is informative and easy to understand. Great pictures and step by step guide.

Wonderful Learning Tool
This book is well-written and the instructions are easy to follow. It’s great for experienced artists and those just starting out, with illustrations that get progressively more complicated. It’s also beautiful, I love the art style. And the sheer variety of dragons created with the tools inside is just astounding.
